Law Students' Society

From the Activities Vice Presidents

Jono Augustus and  Ronny Chieng

Next Year’s ‘Law Students’ Guidebook' will read:“They said it couldn’t be done. A Non-Australian Chinese guy. An Australian Anglo-Indian. Together, they represent the global majority of people in the world. How could they ever hope to successfully pander to the needs of the White minority?

BUT THEY PROVED THEM WRONG BY BEING EXCEEDINGLY AWESOME!”

Look, let’s keep this real. There’s always a small percentage of people who want nothing to do with the law school other than to get their degree and leave. There's also always a small percentage of people who aren't happy no matter what we do. That's fine, we're not here to tell you what to do.

What we ARE here to do is create GOOD opportunities for the rest of you law students to have an absolute blast at university. That time you got drunk and passed out while making out with your student contact. That time you got drunk and passed out while puking on the law ball dance floor. That time you got drunk and passed out while drinking and passing out. We’re here to allow you to cherish these moments.

We know what "lame" LSS run events feel like. We’ve been to them. We know you need early notice of when they’re on. We know you want them affordable but fun. We know you don't want events catered solely to a special exclusive group of students. We know you don't want LSS events to replace your already existing social life. WE KNOW ALL THIS BECAUSE WE ARE YOU!

So give us a chance in this coming year to show you that the LSS can actually do something relevant to your life. Check out our little preview of what’s to come in 2008…

BBQs – If you hear music pumping from the University Square lawns in front of the law building, there’s FREE food (including veggie burgers!!!) and drinks available.

Law Ball – Gird your loins for the flagship Activities event of 2008. Forget the previous balls. Forget other faculty balls (genuine LOL @ the hype of Commerce Ball). In fact, forget EVERYTHING YOU KNOW, KNEW OR WILL EVER KNOW ABOUT BALLS. The 2008 Law Ball is going to blow your mind. Dressing up, drinking, dancing and good music (and don’t worry, there will be good music because we know you’ll have our heads if there isn’t), what more could you ask for? Maybe a Slurpee Machine? I hear ya…

Booze Cruise – Party it up on a beautiful night down the river. Dance on the poop deck. Poop on the dance deck. Just don’t fall into the water, it’s pretty cold.

Pleasant Thursday Nights (PTNs) – The Law School tradition that harkens back to the days when handlebar moustaches were cool and everyone was using a Nokia phone. We refuse to let this die out. It’s basically a chill out night at a nearby pub with cheap drinks and good friends.

Video Games Tournament – Video games battles
ON HUGE CLASSROOM SCREENS. Enough said. The Equality VPs are looking over my shoulder as I write this with their claws draw, so, no, this isn’t a “guys only” event. We’ve seen females that can kick some butt at video games, and we’d like to see it again!

Poker Tournament – Want to check-raise that annoying student in Torts class who always asks the lecturer a question he knows the answer too? Here’s your opportunity!

Weekly Sports Days – Check out the University Square lawns every Wednesday afternoon for some casual sports fun. Screw sign-up sheets , just put your bag down and kick some balls around!
