STS Notes
Please note that all previous years' STS notes have been permanently removed from the Online Database. This is a necessary precaution to ensure that students are not relying on out of date or incorrect statements of law. The Education Directors would like to reiterate that all concerns or queries in relation to course subject matter should be directed primarily to your lecturer. The STS tutorials are used to facilitate and encourage students learning and understanding regarding subjects that they may be finding particularly difficult.

Student Tutorial Service 2012
The LSS provides a voluntary tutorial service to students throughout weeks three—Swotvac. The tutes are aimed at complementing normal classes, and usually provide a broad overview of topics and resolve student’s particular questions and difficulties. The tutes are run by students who have previously studied the subject and achieved outstanding results. Their notes and advice are therefore invaluable! (Just ask anyone that goes). With an even larger intake of JDs in 2012 the challenge will be ensuring as many subjects as possible are covered and we will be working hard to make this happen.
WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR TUTORS FOR THE FOLLOWING SUBJECTS SEMESTER 1 2012:
- Obligations
- Dispute Resolution
- Principles of Public Law
- Trusts
- Criminal Law
- Administrative Law
- Taxation Law and Policy

STS Property: Catch-up Tutorial
A catch-up STS Property Tutorial will be held as follows:
The Annual Sir Anthony Mason Lecture 2011
On behalf of the Melbourne University Law Students' Society, it is our pleasure to invite you to the 2011 Sir Anthony Mason Lecture.
The Lecture was inaugurated in 1995, the year of Sir Anthony Mason's retirement as Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia. It serves to celebrate his outstanding contribution to the legal profession and the common law of Australia, as well as offering the opportunity for students to meet and listen to those who have helped to shape the law as we study it. It is one of the most significant events of the MULSS calendar and in particular for the Education Portfolio.
STS Property tutorial cancelled (Week 7)
Richmond is still quite ill so he won't make it to the Property tute today. He has promised to do a 2-hour catch up during the break.
Mindfulness Seminars
The Melbourne Law School in collaboration with the University of Melbourne Counselling Service offers a program of mindfulness workshops specifically for JD and LLB students during Semester 2, 2011.
Mindfulness is form of self-awareness adapted from the Buddhist tradition of meditation. Considerable research has found mindfulness to have significant health benefits and to be helpful in the management of stress, the ability to focus on study and the promotion of coping and wellbeing.
Curious? An introductory session will be held to offer an overview and short practice.

Animal Law - Semester 2, 2011
Due to demand, Animal Law is being offered as an undergraduate subject at Melbourne University in Semester 2, 2011. Enrolment is open to undergraduates and cross-institutional enrolment is also available. The second offering of this subject reflects the popularity of animal law studies at international universities including Harvard, Columbia and McGill Universities, and the large enrolment last year when it was offered for the first time.
This subject is ideal for students who are interested in justice in the wider community, and are interested in applying the skills learnt throughout their law degree to a novel and evolving area of law.
