Competitions Overview
I was surprised when I found out the LSS was responsible for the running of competitions way back when. From Mooting to Witness, Client Interview to Negotiation (not to mention International Humanitarian Law Mooting, Letter of Advice, and Paper and Oral), competitions are intrinsic to the law school experience. They teach you practical skills and get you to speak the law, rather than just write about it. I thought it would most certainly be the kind of thing the law faculty would organise, but no! In fact, it is the LSS. With this however, comes a significant advantage. Competitions can be run with student insight.
As your Competitions Director 2010, I will be overseeing the running of competitions in the law school. I want students to feel welcome and encouraged to participate these competitions, and for them to be as beneficial as possible. If you have any ideas, suggestions, or just feel like going out for a taco one day, shoot me an email. Melbourne Law School GET COMPETING! DON'T BE AFRAID! Remember it is not about who wins or loses, it is not about grand final trophies, it is about that all too fleeting feeling of satisfaction you get for just having given it a shot, that and POST-GRANDFINAL catering. I do hope above all that you enjoy yourselves. BEST OF LUCK!
