Living Book Scheme
Applying
Applications for the Living Book Scheme Semester 2 are now open.
Download the application form here.
***************************
If you are struggling financially, you will probably be eligible to receive textbooks and/or printed material through the Living Book Scheme.
Eligible applicants will be able to loan books for a semester from our collection of books. They will also be able to collect printed materials free of charge.
Students are encouraged to donate their unwanted textbooks to the collection. To donate, just drop the books off at the Level 2 LSS office. Please note that we only accept books that are still currently being used for law subjects.
Please note: This scheme is established exclusively for those students in serious financial hardship. The Law Students' Society has limited funds and relies heavily on students’ honesty and goodwill. If you do not sincerely believe you need financial help from the LSS, please do not apply.
If you have any equality-related queries, please contact the LSS Equality Vice Presidents at lss-equality@unimelb.edu.au.
Materials provided by the LBS:
- UGS has kindly agreed to give LBS students free printed materials
- We only supply required books (not those labelled "recommended")
- As a rule, print copies of legislation are not loaned to students, since they are already available for free online
How long will I be eligible for the scheme?
- All Melbourne Uni law students can apply to be part of the LBS
- You only need to apply for the LBS once per calendar year. If you are approved, you will remain part of the LBS until the end of summer semester (eg. Semester 1 2008, Semester 2 2008, Summer 2009)
What to do if you have already purchased your materials this semester:
- If you bought your PM from UGS, take your receipt back to them once you have been approved and they will refund the cost
- In the case of books, we will consider buying books on an individual basis at the end of the semester, on the proviso that they remain in good condition and do not have permanent markings. However we would recommend that you try to obtain a refund on your books, as there are limited funds for the LBS. We aim to make the scheme available to all students in need, so if possible hold off on purchasing your books if you think you will be part of the LBS.
