Law Students' Society

Women's Officers

Hello everyone, my name is Courtney McLennan and I am the Melbourne University Law Students’ Society Women’s Officer for 2008.

The Women’s Portfolio at the University of Melbourne aims to provide law students with practical opportunities to support women in the law. This career-focused outlook is designed to ensure that the women of the Melbourne Law School are provided with wider legal career options and greater inspiration from professional women in the legal community.

WOMEN’S MENTORING PROGRAM
A key initiative in 2008 is the Striving for Success Women’s Mentoring Program. Thiscreates networks between University of Melbourne law students and women in the legal profession. The program awardsselected University of Melbourne law students with the opportunity to experience the valuable contribution women make to the legal profession while gaining career-based insights from women professionals.

MULSS PUBLICATIONS
The Women’s Portfolio submits articles to LSS publication based on key issues that face women entering the legal profession.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY COMMITTEE BOARD

The MU LSS Women’s Portfolio also makes valuable contributions to the Equal Opportunity Committee Board where University staff, lecturers and students convene to discuss and proactively address equality issues affecting the Law School.

SUPPORTING WOMEN IN THE LAW
The MU LSS Women’s Portfolio promotes the role of women in the legal profession by supporting the Women’s Day at the Bar event which is run in conjunction with the Women Barristers’ Association, and the ever-popular Women’s Breakfast organised with the Victorian Council of Law Students’ Societies (attended by over 400 law students and legal professionals in 2007).
