Changes in 2012
The LSS will be undergoing some fairly significant changes throughout 2012. You will notice many of these changes quickly (we are building a new logo and website - ready to serve in April), but others will take a little longer to filter through.
As an organisation, we will increase our own transparency and standards in a number of ways. We are implementing a code of conduct by which all of our committee members will draft and adhere to, based on various values we deemed important. We are always happy to provide reasons why we have spent money on a certain initiative, or why we have sourced it from a certain organisation. We are drafting a new constitution, aimed at simplifying the way we conduct our business and making it easier for new committee members and students generally to understand our processes.
Overall, this is the boring stuff, but it is all aimed at one simple goal - providing each student at MLS with the best possible experience inside and outside the classroom. The better we function, the better our services are to you.
Some other noteworthy changes for this year include:
- Expanded Book Fairy (mo' money in your pocket) and Student Tutorial Service (mo' marks on your transcript)
- Re-introduction of the Melbourne Law School Art Competition
- Access to a wider range of commercial firms and more information about diverse careers pathways
- Ensuring all law students can find a way to pay for their degrees, particularly FEE-HELP students
- Sending competitors in every category to the ALSA National Conference
- Improved access to guest speakers at key events
- More music, creative arts, sport and leisure opportunities
- Giving the law building the mojo it seriously lacks - better student spaces please
This is certainly only the tip of our very large iceberg. More information will be provided in the coming weeks. Please contact us if you have any ideas or suggestions for the year ahead at lss-info@unimelb.edu.au
