Paper & Oral Competition 2009—Invitation for Submissions
We all have to submit research work during our degree, and sometimes the effort that goes into research and writing is forgotten in the focus on grades. If you have produced a written piece for a Law subject in the last 12 months of which you’re particularly proud, then the upcoming Paper & Oral Competition is designed to help you present your work to a broader audience.
In the Paper round of the competition, submissions are considered anonymously by a panel of faculty academics for structure, cohesion and originality. The strongest pieces will be put forward as into the final Oral round. Finalists present a short oral summary of their work to a panel of Minter Ellison lawyers, who select a winner based on originality of ideas, and quality of oral presentation.
Submissions close on 5 August, and the final will be held on the evening of Thursday 20 August 2009. Please note the following four eligibility requirements:
- Your paper must have been submitted for a Law subject in 2008 semester 2 or 2009 semester 1.
- Your paper must have received a mark of 70 (H2B) or above.
- Word limit is a strict maximum of 5000 words all inclusive.
- Answers to hypothetical problems are not eligible.
This competition is probably the simplest and most individual run by the Law Students Society, and is a great opportunity to demonstrate your academic skills. If you’ve never entered a competition before, we encourage you to consider entering Paper & Oral this year. Remember, you’ve done the work already!
- Send submissions to:
- LSS Competition VPs.
- Deadline:
- 5pm, Wednesday 5 August 2009.
Best of luck!
